This decade's furniture trend has swapped plastic covering on couches for fur stools and elegant benches. In the last few years, fur stools have become a staple in the modern, millennial home. With my recent move, and task of redecorating, it seems like every home decor store I browse has a version of their own, tacked to a hefty price tag, with prices averaging at $150. With a blog dedicated to saving money, you know this wasn't in my budget. With Hobby Lobby's consistent 30% off offer on furniture, I headed there to see what I could get. The options were . . frumpy. In time's like this 50% off at JoAnn Fabrics is your friend! #DoItLikeDiam and create your own home decor in minutes!

Shopping List:

Metallic Spray Paint - $4.25

Glitter Blast Spray Paint (Silver Splash) - $6.25

Heavy Duty Scissors - $1.00

Pillow Insert - $10.99

Fabric Glue - $5.99

1. Find a Stool

It's time to get thrifty. Head over to your favorite second hand store and browse their selection of furniture. It's best to visit a super center for projects like these, due to the larger amounts of inventory and variety. I found this one at The Salvation Army for $6.99.

If used furniture creeps you out, IKEA has great selections ranging from $5.99 to $24.99.

2. Add Color

Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Amazon all have a wide array of Spray Paints. Krylon is known to withstand hard-core wear and tear. I used the metallic option to give it a more expensive look. After 10 minutes, I applied Glitter Blast to add a spark of elegance and glam.

*Note: Don't use spray paint in enclosed areas. This task was completed outside, in the grass.

Stool: $6.99

Spray Paint: $10.50

Getting my Security Deposit back by not staining the concrete, priceless.

3. Shop for Fabric

Although JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts is the immediate go to when browsing for Fabrics, don't be afraid to think outside of the box. Soft rugs and blankets can also suffice. Find a material that speaks to you, in sense of touch and vision. Great options can be found at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and even Walmart!

4. Making the Cushion

With your fabric wrong side up, lay your cushion on top of it and draw a circle or square around the cushion. Ideally, you want to leave a six inch border around the cushion. Your index finger is a good length of measurement. Cut out your shape and save the access for for another project.

Glue the cushion to the center of your fabric. Gather the access fabric behind the cushion, pinch it together and glue it down. For rectangular projects, cut a small diagonal line at each corner to create smoother edges. Do not worry about if the bottom of the cushion isn't completely covered, because it will not be seen.

5. The Grand Finale

Place layer of glue around the perimeter of the stool and another layer down the center. Sit your new cushion on top of the stool and apply pressure.

We'd love to see what you've come up with! What kind of fabric did you buy? What is your color scheme? Let us know how this project went, and stay tuned for more ways you can learn to #DoItLikeDiam.
