How Do You Handle Adversity?

The art of being strong greatly differs from becoming cold hearted and closed off. Strong is being able to dust the dirt off of yourself and keep it moving, knowing that you’ll soon fall again, but rise better, different than you were before.
If you're young, you've probably heard "Smile. You are too beautiful/handsome, too blessed to walk around so solemn" . But when working on strength, reconstruction, that may be the only face one can make , it keeps feelings down and drowned, keeping us from falling into pieces. Always look better than you feel , grin and bear it , fake it till you make it, I’m sure this has all been heard before. The world does not need to see you down. But everything changes in boiling water . “Will you be the egg, carrot or coffee bean? When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?
Are you the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, will you wilt and become soft and lose strength? Are you the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Will your fluid spirit become hardened and stiff after small trials and tribulations? Will the shell look the same, but on the inside, bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?
Or will you be the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. Like the bean, when things are at their worst, will you get better and change the situation around you? When the hours is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate to another level?”
I may have the exterior of an egg becoming hardened due to the world around me, but really I’m coffee beanin’, concentrating on maintaining my essence, trying to flourish through the pain in effort to wipe the dirt off my ass and rise once more. So pardon my face while I focus on not drowning in the water boiling around me.
